INFO RE GREYLOCK HIKE: The hike IS NOT canceled. SInce many of us are camping, we will drive to the hike from here. If you still intend to do the hike only (which I still highly recommend if you have the time for just that), please call or e-mail one of us in advance.regarding meeting arrangements. Also, people are more than welcome to meet us at the campsite early morning on Sunday so we may meet and carpool from there.

This'll be the precursor for some of those climbing Mt. Greylock on Sunday. Others are welcome. At the time of this events posting there were many sites available. I have reserved for myself site #1 and will be there as early as possible. Sven's (me) cell # is 203-376-9356.

You will have to reserve your own site through Reserve America. 4 people per site max. (note in your response the site you have reserved and contact a buddy who has also said yes to share. Please work it out amongst yourselves. Use the links below?

Please, please, please carpool. We go to the woods because we like them.

Streams, waterfalls and flowering shrubs abound in Pittsfield State Forest. 65 acres of wild azalea fields are a profusion of pink blossoms in June. The forest has two camping areas, two picnic areas and a swimming beach. Fishermen frequent scenic Berry Pond, one of the highest natural water bodies in the state at 2,150 feet in elevation. The vista from the top of Berry Mountain, accessible by auto road from April to December, is a striking panorama and a great place to watch the sun set.

30 miles of trails encourage visitors to escape into the quiet of the state forest which follows the crest of the Taconic Mountain Range separating Massachusetts and New York. Access is available at several locations to the Taconic Crest Trail a 35 mile long hiking trail. The paved three-quarter mile Tranquility Trail is popular with wheelchair-users and other visitors who favor its smooth surface. A wheelchair-accessible picnic area and restroom are located nearby.

Nearby Balance Rock State Park is located in the northeast corner of Pittsfield State Forest. Here a huge 165-ton limestone boulder is balanced precariously upon bedrock, a natural curiosity.

So i have a little more information about the campsite. you have to walk up about 11 yards from where you park to get to the site in the woods on top of Berry Mountain. the campsite Sven and I reserved in Stie #1 which is right at a pond on top of the Berry Mountain. Others are welcome to reserve campsite nearby. Or coordinate with someone else who might have already reserved it.

there are flushed and non flush toilets available.

if you crave a shower each day (like me!) there is a YMCA downtown, about 8-9 min drive. you can buy a day pass for $8 and use the fascilities there?.for the entire day. that means you could even shower in the morning and at night for the same $8.

hope this helps anyone who is still debating whether or not to come?

see you there
Anna
