Hi everyone! I am new here. I saw the post about this 4 day gathering and I want to know how much it is to go there by the day, not all 4 days. I have a place to stay, so I dont want to camp there.

TIPS
Another thing - although I live in Connecticut, I have a summer home in Charlestown, so I know the area really well. If you are looking to save money, not that on RTE 1, near Michaels gas station, is a park called Burlingame state park. You can camp there really cheap. 10-20.00 a night last I checked. There is also tons of seasonal motels along rte one.

Places to check out if you want to go on side trips

1. Right down the road from Ninegret is a place called "the umbrrella factory" Check it out! It looks like a dumpy little place. It is actually 5 shops, 1 has rastafarian, african, pottery, clothing, hippy stuff, imports, etc. The other is a gift shop, the other is funky hippy stuff, and there is outdoor gardens and farm animals in the back.

2. Want to go out to a good restaurant cheap? Known for locals for at leas 5 decades......
Captain Jacks! You drive down RTE 1 North, 5-7 minutes, about 5 miles.......... I cannot think of the name of the darn road now, but i fyou ask locals they can tell you the name of the road....... they have the best fish and chips with clam cakes anywhere! For about 12.00 you get a full 12-15" long cod or flounder fried fish, 3 clam cakes and a bowl of clam chowder.

3. Watch Hill, nice place to check out, quaint shops (before Ninegret on RTE 1)
Mansions, shops, beach.

4. Surfing Beach - Naragansett. Drive Rte 1 north, to the wakefield exit. Right off the exit, Left at the light, under the overpass, go right.......drive one mile to the end, go left.

5. Newport - continue up route 1 for twenty minutes. Follow the signs to Newport - RTE 138

In Westerly, right before you go to the Rhythm roots place if you need to get stuff, like charcoal, soda etc.
There is Benny's
Walmart
Liquor Store
all in the same area.

To those of you that love Indian Tribal Dancing, late summer and fall there is a million in Rhode Island. I go to them. Let me know.

Marisa,

Hi and welcome to the group! According to the website, it looks like the day tickets are pretty reasonably priced:

DAY TICKETS (Advance thru Aug 15) (Gate after Aug 15)
Friday Advance: $25; Gate: $30
Saturday Advance: $40; Gate: $45
Sunday Advance: $40; Gate: $45

http://rhythmandroots...

Also, I greatly appreciate all of the tips. I am still new to New England and love the idea of checking out some of the places in the "area." In fact, several of those that you mentioned are right up my alley...

On that note: if you know of any specific Indian Tribal Dancing events, I know I would be VERY interested in attending one. Perhaps we could even make it a meet-up? Please let me know.

Thanks...
MARISA

Hey Marisa! It's Marisa here! LOL.
The best pow wow of all is Schmetzun at Foxwoods. It was worth it. Went for the first time last year, awsome. Photo opp for me. Will show you pics at some point. I am going to theRhythm and Roots! The prices you gave me, are those a group rate or if you go by yourself. And how is everyone going to meet up? I am going to park down the road if possible and walk there. I did a drive thru last weekend, a huge park. My brother used to do BMX racing competitions there as a kid in the summers.

Went to Newport last weekend for the birthday. Had a blast. Don't know what kind of music you are into, but I went to this famous club in Newport on my birthday, called Newport Blues Cafe, and they had an awsome band. Name is Santa Mambo. It was fusion of Latin, funk, and electric guitar. Awsome. Ends up the singer went to High School with me in Danbury! How funny! If you ever go to Rhode Island, let me know. I can give you tips.

Oh by the way, check out burlingame state park......... about 1/2 mile from the park. Cheap to camp there for the concert.

Had fish and chips with clam cakes and squid - 15.00 at that place Captain Jacks. All fried but yummmmmmmmmmmy.

Still have to look into Tibet fest. Surprised no one is interested accept you and Mike. Email me direct.....
