You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
Since the beginning of my MeetUp experience in mid 2006, there has been a call for coed sports days at a beach or park. This call has been for more than irregularly scheduled games or events - so we've now finally started this group...
The focus is primarily on the social networking - the making of new friends and definitely not on the quality of play... Think of it as a league where you can show up at any time and play - regardless of your ability - or lack thereof...
So join and come on out for a little exercise and a whole lot of fun...
We'll start with a monthly game - and ideally proceed to a weekly game or more... Of course there will be food and refreshments...
The more frequent attendees to our events know most of what follows, ideally I'd like to speak to prospective members, the infrequent attendees and those that never show up at all
Things we are:
A fun, casual sports group - Generally speaking we're all most especially the "regularly attending members" - very calm in demeanor, very welcoming to new members, very open to humor, very open to new experiences. While many of us are professionals, some highly successful, a more common attribute is that of a reasonable level of humility, sincerity and civility. Ultimately, all this really means is that we are all very sociable and frankly speaking - this level of sociability is a basic requirement to participate in the group. This also has allowed us to avoid the member troubles that have affected other groups... Please don't show up if your social skills show obvious deficiencies...
.
.
Things we are not:
A singles dating group. Most of us are single, and there is attraction between various members and surely that's some of the fun in a group like this, however if this is your prime motivation for attending - don't show up - there are other groups better serving your interests.
A group for you to impress: If your lack of self confidence evidences itself in an oversized ego, or if you delight in domination or intimidation of other people you may also want to go somewhere else - pretentious people simply need not apply here...
A happy hour bar group - While we do get together after an outing to socialize at a pub or nightclub - drinking isn't the focus - many members don't even drink - so if beer bongs or downing shots is your passion - some of the other nightlife MeetUp groups may also be better suited to your interests...
A business development / network marketing group: No sales pitches allowed. Don't try handing out literature... There's better groups for this...

How do we keep this focus with a group that allows anyone to join?
Actually the core group is very good at self policing... Generally what happens is that odd, aberrant, strange, weird or simply bad behavior by an individual often becomes a major discussion topic at group events, soon after, the offending person recognizes that he/she is not welcomed, and moves on to other groups... While this is not a perfect solution - it does seem to be working quite well...
We also do have a board... And periodically we do get together to discuss various issues, including members (new or old) that may not exhibit the types of character traits this group desires... Rest easy here, there is no long admittance interview or anything like that, but remember that if you do exhibit antisocial behavior - not limited to those listed above, you will be quickly removed from the group... Consider this your warning...

Some Requests:
(1) Participate - Show up to an event, RSVP regularly, make use of the RSVP comment section and bulletin board. And of course , if you dont have a picture online - get one! ----- Photos of dogs, cats, babies or inanimate objects or the Grand Canyon do not count!
(2) Bring a Friend to the next event!
(3) Spread the Word about MeetUp and this and other groups
(4) Keep your eyes open for quirky unique fun events, and drop us an email about them
Lastly
Thanks again to all of you who have been instrumental in growing this group so quickly, and making it so much fun.
See you all soon
Jim
