Two great feelings about starting the new year - clearing out the old and bringing in the new. Here's your chance to enjoy a slightly weird combo of the two...
Bring your old socks and make some new friends. We're taking one and making it into the other. New friends don't really make good old socks...or do they? Well, we'll try it the other way first.
We're going to make "Stupid Sock Creatures" (quirky, lovable figures from old, new, used, kids' outgrown, outused, 1/2 a pair, orphaned, holey and holy, too small, too big, too ugly, and Goodwill specials socks. The creatures you create and/or the fellow sock enthusiasts you meet can become your new friends. If you don't wash your socks before you come, I can't guarantee it tho.
Bring every sock you can scrounge up. Clear out the sock drawer of all the orphans. Ladies (and some men :) don't forget your old nylons, leggings, tights, etc.. Parents - kids outgrown ones, especially baby ones. Guys, rid your grandpa's drawers of those holed socks, especially the oxford ones.
Also, bring WHATEVER else!!! Your lovable stupid sock creatures will need clothes maybe, hair, teeth, tongue(s), 2 eyes, maybe 3, 4..., ears that hang way low, accessories, fashion statements, warts, weird appendages... Whatever you can find in your odds and ends drawers and closets, bottom of the desk drawer, workshop, and cosmetic drawer, orphaned costume jewelry, scarfs and ties out of style or those never in, sewing basket overflow, buttons you've been meaning to sew back on, Happy Meal toys, game and toy pieces, etc., etc., etc..
To give us a pile to play in, bring any old clothes a toss away from the trashcan, especially t-shirts and kids' clothes, yarns, threads, fibers or any sort, ribbons, buttons, elastic, rubber bands, wire, string, beads, baubles, and bangles, and anything that's lying around the house waiting for spring cleaning.
I'll have some staple tools and supplies, but if you have pins and needles, scissors, glue, hot glue guns and glue sticks, please bring. I'll be collecting $3 to buy a bunch of stuffing to stuff our creatures as well as our friends (light appetizers and drinks). Or you can bring a bottle or dish to share instead.
Come on over around 6-ish or whenever you wake from your NY's celebration's hangover. Please check RSVP's for rides offered and needed.
Have a merry and a happy and a safe,
rené
Here's a link to the original creator. I will have his book for all who need inspiration.
