Thomas J. Stone is president of DesertXpress Enterprises where he is leading the development and implementation of the $3.5 billion DesertXpress interstate high speed rail project linking Southern Nevada and Southern California. He al is President of Nevada Monorail Enterprises, which is serving as the Co-Developer and Project Manager for the extension of the Las Vegas Monorail to McCarran International Airport and the West side of the Las Vegas Restort corridor, in cooperation with Bombardier and the Las Vegas Monorail Company.
Previously Dr. Stone served as Chief Project Officer for the Los Angles to Pasadena Metro Gold Line Construction Authority, where he was responsible for the design and construction of $ 73- million Gold line light rail transit project, which was completed on-time and within-budget. Tom’s 40 year career in the transportation industry includes seven years as President of the transit Systems Division of Bombardier Inc., the world’s largest supplier of complete mass transit systems.
Projects developed under his leadership include:
* The E-470 toll Road in Denver
* The $1.7 billion Southeast Corridor design/build “T-REX” light rail transit and interstate freeway reconstruction program in Denver where he led the preliminary engineer and EIS phases and helped mobilize business and elected officials to support the project.
* Automated people mover projects in the United States, including the Senate Subway, the airport monorail at Tampa International Airport, and the WEDway system at Houston International Airport.
* An internationally recognized expert in transit technology, design/build contracting, and innovative financing, Tom received Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Engineering from UCLA and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado.
